Make-a-Zine Workshop #11: Documentary Zines w/ Li & Simone

Wednesday, Mar. 21
6:30pm - 8:30pm

The LGBTQ Youth Space is partnering with the South Bay DIY Zine Collective to bring you monthly zine workshops! In this, the ELEVENTH edition of our mostly-monthly zine-making workshop, we’ll learn about self-documentation and crafting a poetic narrative.

Documentary zines can be about anything! From investigating a series of family photos taken before you were born, to recording a day in the life of your dog, there are many ways to combine storytelling and research to make a powerful zine. What does it means to document a truth?

Simone Larson and Li Patron are both from East Side San Jose and went to the same all-girls Catholic high school (the nerdy one), but nine years apart. Both are poets and zinesters, with shared interests in tarot, personal histories, and documentary storytelling.

Bring your stories, thoughts, ideas, etc and we’ll provide the materials!#sbDIYzc workshops will teach you how to make zines, give you the opportunity to tell your stories and ask veteran zinesters about their stories. We’ll have a different zinester each month to bring you a wide range of zine-making techniques and backgrounds.

The zine workshop is open to queer and trans youth and young adults and their allies, ages 13-25.
